Grace United Methodist Church
North Point Builders was honored to be the General Contractor for the historic courtyard renovation at the Grace United Methodist Church. Established in 1924, the Grace United Methodist Church is perhaps one of grandest and beautiful churches in the Baltimore, Maryland area. The updated courtyard is now a permanent place where members and their families can have their loved ones laid to rest.
The original courtyard was the perfect serene space as it was relatively unused. For this reason, the design placed the Columbarium in the center courtyard of the Church. The west wall was dedicated to a set of mounted burial boxes while the remaining area was renovated into a small exterior sanctuary.
Construction included the demolition of the existing courtyard and the installation of concrete paving, landscaping, and drainage system. A new foundation was also constructed to support the Columbarium. To overcome uneven site conditions, the entire courtyard was lowered approximately two feet in some locations. The courtyard was upgraded with a new ADA accessible entrance, paver labyrinth walkway, paver patios, pergolas, and landscape lighting.
During the demolition phase, materials were not simply moved off site. The courtyard was surrounded by an occupied three-story building with limited access from ground level entrances. By planning and implementing detailed procedures, North Point Builders was able to relocate demo debris and new materials by having a crane lift and lower the materials over the roof.
As construction progressed, the Church, Youth School, Day Care, and Adult Day Care facilities remained fully occupied and operational. To accommodate the ongoing activities, North Point Builders made special scheduling adjustments to avoid the disruption of daily events. Our proactive approach offers the safest site conditions for all pedestrians and project team members.
