White Marsh Fire Station
North Point Builders provided Pre-Construction and Construction Management services for the new White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company station. The former fire station was built in the 1940’s before White Marsh, Maryland became a thriving suburban area. With the growth in population, the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company responds to over 4,000 calls a year. The old building no longer had the capacity to keep up with community needs.General Motors in partnership with the community generously donated a portion of their land to the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company for the prime location of the new station, allowing the Fire Company to build a reliable facility that could serve the community for many years to come.
The new 20,000 square foot fire station is equipped with five apparatus bays, a wet training tower and training room, turn out gear area, administrative area, living quarters, kitchen, and additional resource spaces.
Special Qualities
Being a volunteer fire company, funds were limited to build the state-of-the-art facility. North Point Builders worked with the Design Team and the Fire Company to provide value engineering solutions. North Point Builders was able to offer over $1 Million in value engineering savings. Several alternate mechanical systems and electrical systems options were presented and accepted by the Design Team and Fire Company. Modification of the systems did not impact the function or quality, but provided cost savings. Additionally, alternate finish materials were recommended and implemented. North Point Builders worked with our roofing contractor to develop an alternate roof edge metal trim detail, which resulted in a $100,000 savings.
