Towson Fire Station
North Point Builders was the General Contractor for the new Towson Fire Station. The original station served the community for over 60 years and was deemed outdated as it lacked modern amenities including male and female living quarters and drive-through bays. With the future in mind, Baltimore County decided to build a new facility in the heart of Towson.
The building is constructed of structural steel, masonry, and concrete. Areas in the 20,000 square foot space include an operation center, turn out area, full kitchen, gym, sleeping quarters, male and female locker and shower facilities, briefing and training rooms, and offices for the Fire Chief and Staff. The station also includes a new 8,000 square foot, five-lane drive through truck bay.
The new station has a 40,000-gallon storm water holding facility constructed below the entry aprons. In some locations, these large storage pipes were installed through solid rock.
Special Qualities
With the site located in the heart of Towson, it was a challenge to construct the 20,000 square foot facility on the half acre lot. With little to no room for staging materials on site, North Point Builders adapted an effective solution. Trade materials were delivered to the site in limited quantities and carefully coordinated with the ongoing construction process. This process allowed the project to progress with minimal delay and permitted traffic to flow as normally as possible.
