Savage Fire Station
North Point Builders was the General Contractor for the new Savage Fire Station No. 6 in Howard County, Maryland. The original station was located in a neighborhood which was not ideal for efficient response times and easy access to major roadways. The Savage Volunteer Fire Company was in need of a modernized facility that would improve response time and allow for future growth.
The new 33,000 square foot stat-of-the-art facility includes 22 individual sleeping quarters, locker/shower rooms, workout area, lounge spaces, administration offices, control center, eat-in and commercial kitchen. Since the building was designed to withstand Level 5 emergency conditions, the community room serves as both a place to gather and as an emergency shelter when needed. 10,000 square feet is dedicated to the 6-bay garage which utilizes high-speed bi-fold doors.
Special Qualities
The new Savage Fire Station is located on a narrow property between Route 32 and Route 1. Due to its location, zoning variances and an archaeological investigation were required prior to construction. In order to meet the site requirements, the site was designed with complex and compact storm water management systems.
