Dundalk Elementary
North Point Builders was the General Contractor for the Dundalk Elementary School replacement. This $35 million project involved the new construction of a 100,000 square foot, two-story building. The new school now has over 40 classrooms for K-5 students, admin offices, a central lobby area, media center, cafeteria, kitchen area, gymnasium, and group learning areas. North Point Builders was honored to build the new school facility that now serves the growing student body of over 750 students and our own Dundalk community.
North Point Builders used a phasing approach that resulted in the overall project completing 8 months ahead of the contracted schedule. Construction of the new school took place on the existing athletic fields while the students, teachers, and faculty continued their last year in the original building.
At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, the 100-year-old historic school went under hazmat abatement and complete demolition. Following demolition of the original building, the 20-acres of new available space was developed to include playground areas, baseball fields, and multipurpose fields. The new Dundalk Elementary School building opened to students for the start of the 2019-2020 school year while construction of the new athletic fields was completed in the fall.

The project’s focus was based on the school’s theme, “Celebrating tradition while moving forward.” To preserve the history of the 100-year-old school building, North Point Builders, Baltimore County Public Schools, and the Design Team partnered with the Historical Society to incorporate Historical Elements from the original school into the new facility. The design included the reuse and restoration of the stone entry façade, auditorium proscenium, and brick chimney. By using effective planning strategies, advanced laser-mapping preservation technology and top-quality craftsmen, the project team successfully and seamlessly integrated the school’s historic tradition into their new modern home.
This project represents the first major step in revitalizing the rich history of the Dundalk Community. Though the original Dundalk Elementary School no longer exists, the memories made there will stay in the hearts of the students, teachers, and community that it impacted.
