Howard County Bain 50+ Center
North Point Builders provided Pre-Construction and General Contracting services for the renovation of the Bain 50+ Center in Howard County. The Bain 50+ Center provides a variety of activities for local senior residents. With an increase in the older resident population, Howard County decided that renovations were necessary to provide more accessible and improved resources for their community members.
The multi-phased renovation involved selective demo, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system upgrades, and new finishes. The renovated spaces contain the lobby area, admin offices, game/craft rooms, dance & aerobic room, ADA accessible restrooms, health office, meeting room, and lounge areas. The original outdoor courtyard was enclosed for the addition of a state-of-the art fitness room. On the exterior, all new eco-efficient storefront was installed. The solar shades help reflect sunlight in the summer and conserve heat in the winter.
Special Qualities
Through most of the construction schedule, the Bain 50+ Center was closed due to COVID-19. Construction personnel numbers were reduced to ensure safe social distancing protocols, but work continued to progress at an accelerated rate. Even with added scope, the project was completed on time. By completing the project within schedule, the Bain 50+ Center was able to repurpose large unused spaces to host middle school students while they attend virtual school.
