Jacksonville Rec & Senior Center
North Point Builders was the Design-Build Contractor for the Baltimore County Recreation and Community Center. Located in Jacksonville, Maryland, the building was part of a larger park development project created by the Baltimore County Recreation department.
The 18,000 square foot facility is divided into three different functional areas. The northwest side of the building is the Senior Center with a fitness room, computer room, craft area, offices, restrooms, commercial kitchen, and a multipurpose room. The eastern half of the building consists of a large dividable activity room, office, storage, and restrooms. The southern corner of the facility is the multipurpose gymnasium.
The Community Center was built utilizing a pre-engineered metal building structure with a masonry exterior and storefront doors/windows. The project achieved the USGBC LEED Silver Certification by using solar roof decking, reducing construction activity pollution, and decreasing light pollution.
Special Qualities
Due to the fact the facility required a wide clear-span for the gymnasium, using a pre-engineered structure was the perfect economical and efficient option. By utilizing a pre-fabricated structure, this allowed construction to overcome time delays due to severe winter weather. Though the building was a pre-engineered structure, it was uniquely customized to meet the aesthetic and functional desires of the client while staying within their budget.
