Soukup Arena
North Point Builders was the Design-Build contractor for the new Soukup Arena Recreation Center located in Perry Hall, MD. This project is one of nine parks in Baltimore County’s fifth district. The Baltimore County Parks and Recreation Department built the Soukup arena to further enhance the community’s recreational opportunities.
As the Design-Build Contractor, North Point Builders was responsible for all design, owner and user program development, permitting processes, and the US Green Building Council LEED v4 certification program.
The 12,000 square foot facility includes a large gymnasium with a “super flat” custom epoxy floor system, administration area, concession stand, restrooms, and storage spaces. The structure of the facility is a pre-engineered steel building frame with a concrete foundation, metal siding, and masonry skin.
Special Challenges
Throughout the design and construction of the Soukup Arena, North Point Builders fulfilled all USGBC LEED v4 certification requirements. For instance, the gym area receives natural light throughout the day from the highly placed clerestory windows. Sustainable design elements also included a thermally-improved metal wall system and an exterior metal cladding that contains a special solar reflective property.
