Sysmex Inostics, Inc​

North Point Builders was the General Contractor for Sysmex Inostics, Inc., an
international company that specializes in the clinical application of liquid biopsy
testing. With a need for expansion, they chose to relocate from East Baltimore to
1812 Ashland Avenue, allowing Sysmex to work closely with both John Hopkins
Hospital and University.

The new CLIA-Certified molecular diagnostic research and testing laboratory utilizes
6,150 square feet and was on the 5th floor of a currently occupied building. The
The project included full lab areas with lab casework, hoods and other lab equipment
and connections. In addition to the laboratories, North Point Builders constructed
new offices, conference rooms, support spaces, and a kitchenette. New medical gas
and electrical systems, fire alarm and communication systems, and HVAC plumbing
were also installed.

Special Challenges

Because the project site was located on the 5th floor, North Point Builders collaborated with Sysmex to investigate the existing laboratory equipment and identify the dimension requirements necessary for relocation.  Much of the existing equipment was found to be too large to move through the stair, elevator, and door openings. It was also important that the large equipment remain operational until the final move. With these problems in mind, North Point Builders constructed a solution that temporarily removed exterior windows. After the windows were removed, a crane lifted and delivered the specialized pieces of equipment. With careful planning, review, and application of the safety plan, the major delivery event was an efficient success.
